List of Ideas Worth Cloning
Derek Sivers focuses on crafting a life which has lots of time. A fantastic idea. He says, “say no to almost everything. Leave space in your life. That’s the real key. Most of us say a lukewarm “yes” to too many things and our time is full”.
Taleb talks about the 80-20 strategy also called the barbell strategy. Extreme conservatism on one side and taking risks that have a big upside but doenst carry the risk of ruin. I have written about it in the past.
Avoiding standard stupidities in life by Charlie Munger. I wrote about it here.
Redundancy is a fantastic ideas. Nature has factored a lot of redundancy. We have a lot of extras in our bodies. Two lungs, two kidneys, and a lot of extras when we only need one. How do we apply this to our personal lives? Take health insurance for example. Why take a health insurance of 5 lakhs when you can take one of 100 lakhs. You get more cover at a nominal cost and you are creating room for extreme events. How to thrive in an unknowable future is a good list to begin with.
“Whenever you feel that you need something, you need to challenge the dependency and prove your independence” - Another great idea from Derek. I am yet to put this into practice. I have been thinking to not eat out for a month. I love eating good food so I eat out a lot. Coffee too. Need to take a month long break from coffee.
